In many ways the work of a critic is easy, we risk very little yet enjoy position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgement and we thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and read. But the bitter truth we critics must face is that in the grand scheme of thing, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations. The new needs friends.
This above one of my favourite dialougs from an animated movie. The beauty of the quote is that it has talked about both the sides of a critic. There lies a maturity in the quote itself to have mirrored what lies beneath.
Critics, the most enjoyable thing to do for anyone. Its like you just pick up some thing, infact anything you want and just start giving your judgements for the same. It is very easy to just seat over your couch having your tub of popcorn and just pin-pointing to anyone out there. It is the most comfortable zone you are into with that “indifferent” attitude simple giving your spontaneous non-analyzed data.
Remember one thing than when you criticize or show your condescending behaviour regarding or over anything, that doesn’t in any sense makes you look taller than others. Being a critic is not a moment of pride to have climbed over others but instead it’s a sign of shame that you are recklessly justifying somebody else’s things and life without any authority.
Critics are just another way to provide an unbiased opinion, but we instead start presuming the things and start throwing verdicts thereby losing our relationships. We can improve our relationships if we encourage the things instead of criticizing them. We focus on that glass half empty, instead of that glass half filled, a glass which is filled with good. Why is that we concentrate more over the negative points? Why is that so that we can’t appreciate that little but significant thing about anything or anyone? Why can’t we bring that smiles on that faces who are encouraged by your simple appreciation for what they are and their work?
There is a difference between being a critic and being a leader. A leader will lead you the way, he will show you the path, he will encourage and boost you up if you are in the correct direction. Leaders only object when you are on the wrong track. But when it comes to a critic whether you are on the wrong track or right they are bound to find that lacking portion first. Critic is an attitude which is tilted more towards making people believe about the deficiencies they carry with them.
We are equally responsible for inviting those critics to rule over us. We see and emphasize the people who said negative things about us, instead of looking at that part which mirrored your beauty, beauty of your persona before you. Smartness lies when you know what to oversee. You are the only person who can filter out the unwanted things from your life. You can’t stop people to provide their opinions towards you, but you can definitely shut the doors for such criticism by letting in the required things, when you want something to be in, you must have space to accommodate. If you want to accommodate good, you need to throw bad out. Not only matter, but even thoughts occupy space. Its just a matter over mind, if you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter. Simple as that.
I would like to end up my excerpt and conclude my things through this beautiful quote:
There are also those who inadvertently grant power to another man’s words by continuously trying to spite him. If a man gets to the point where he can simply say, ‘The sky is blue,’ and people indignantly rush up trying to refute him saying, ‘No, the sky is light blue,’ then, whether they realize it or not, he has become an authority figure even to such adversaries.”
